Modern Foreign Languages

At Hurst Lodge we are proud to be able to offer students the ability to learn two languages; Spanish and French. They are taught right through from nursery to the seniors as we believe that Modern Foreign Languages open doors to many future prospects. Languages not only give students the ability to communicate in a large number of countries around the world but in a school setting it teaches students the skills of listening and memory enhancing, how to communicate, problem solving and in today's society it lends itself to teaching the appreciation of a multicultural society.

Within the curriculum we feel it is important to try and experience as many real life language situations as possible. Among other things, we have taken trips to restaurants to sample authentic cuisine, taken part in the European Day of Languages, been to France and Spain and students are also encouraged to sing in a Foreign language in the school music concerts.
