Creativity is fundamental to the life of our School
Our art department is outstanding, we offer four different types of art GCSE, and our students frequently receive unconditional places at art school.
We an Art school atmosphere with students engaged and confident in expressing their own ideas. We have an open door policy with group critiques, exhibitions, a gallery and tutorials. We teach an innovative and questioning approach to the arts and the world around us, industriousness quickly develops into a passion. Critical thinking and risk taking are integral to our Fine Art departmental ethos. Students learn to think outside the box and to challenge their own practise this is developed through an inherent confidence to apply extraordinary ideas across any medium.
The aim of the art department is to develop an ability to appreciate the visual world and respond in a personal and creative way. The Art Department believes that everyone can be an artist and that every student has the potential to produce work of the highest standard. All students have complete freedom to develop individual ideas in any medium they choose. We are here to facilitate and encourage individuality, critical and reflective thinking. We provide the opportunity to explore all aspects of Art and Design gaining experience in painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, textile design, graphic design, art history, darkroom techniques, digital photography and Photoshop. Galleries, exhibitions and collections play a vital part in understanding the context of a wider culture. We continue to offer Artist led workshops and value artist in residence opportunities.
The inspiration and power of the arts play a vital role in enabling young people to enhance their critical thinking skills hone their creative talent and develop both confidence and character. Our dynamic and inspirational environment encourages determination and confidence enabling lifelong innovation and expression.
We have achieved excellence in our practise, evidenced through outstanding results and offer a wide range of subject specialist GCSE and A Level courses as well as a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, for entry to Art School. Specialist areas include Fine Art Painting and Drawing, Textile and Fashion Design, Graphic Communication, Photography and Lens based Media as well as Ceramics and Sculpture.
